Decision reports in Ask Fiyr
When you ask Ask Fiyr "Can I afford…", "Should I…" or "What if…", it can answer with a decision report: a chart and two cards that compare your current path with the path after the decision, side by side. It shows the trade-off; it does not give a yes or no verdict.
How to get one
Ask a question about a choice. For example:
- "Can I afford a $40k car?"
- "What if I cut dining out in half?"
- "What happens if I take a job that pays $1,000 a month less?"
- "What if I get a $500 a month raise?"
Fiyr builds the report from your own numbers and then explains it in plain words underneath or above it.
Assumptions
Baseline from active recurring rules, trailing-90-day variable spend, and current balances. Pre-tax unless stated.
Reading the report
- DECISION REPORT title
- The scenario you asked about, in a few words.
- Net worth / Cash
- Switches the chart between your projected net worth and your projected cash.
- Slider (sometimes)
- When a decision has a natural range, such as how much to cut each month, a slider lets you try several values. Each step was worked out in advance, so moving it is instant.
- Chart
- The dashed grey line is your current path. The solid teal line is the path with the decision. Hover over the chart to see both values for any month.
- Outcome cards
- One card for your current path and one for the decision. On the decision card, End net worth and End cash also show how much higher or lower they end up, in green or red.
- Assumptions
- Open it to see exactly which numbers the report started from.
The four figures on each card
| Figure | What it means |
|---|---|
| End net worth | Cash plus invested assets minus debt, at the end of the period. |
| End cash | Projected cash at the end of the period. |
| Surplus / mo | Average income minus spending per month over the period. |
| Cash runway | "OK" means your cash never goes below zero during the period. A number like "14 mo" means cash runs out in that month. |
Where the starting numbers come from
The report starts from your real situation:
- Monthly income and bills from your active recurring rules on the Recurring page.
- Everyday (variable) spending from your last 90 days of transactions.
- Starting cash, invested assets and debt from your current balances, assets and loans.
- Assumed return from your assets. If none of them has a return set, it uses 5% a year.
By default it looks 60 months (5 years) ahead. It can look anywhere from 6 months to 30 years if you ask, for example "over 10 years". A new loan in a scenario defaults to 6.5% over 30 years unless you say otherwise.
There is no yes or no
A decision report is a comparison, not a verdict. It shows what changes and by how much, so you can decide. The written explanation may point out the main trade-off, but it is still an estimate and not financial advice.
Common questions
Does the report tell me whether to do it?
No. It compares your current path with the decision so you can see the trade-off. The choice is yours.
Why does my report say Cash runway OK?
It means your cash stays above zero for the whole period in that scenario. If it dipped below zero you would see the month it happens, like "14 mo".
The starting income or bills look wrong.
They come from your active recurring rules. Update them on the Recurring page, then ask again.
Are decision reports saved?
Yes, inside the saved conversation. Very long conversations may keep the text but drop the report charts to stay within storage limits.
