Your profile, spouse and home location
Your profile holds your name, date of birth, retirement age, home location and marital status. If you are married, add your spouse's details too. FIYR uses these for planning (like FIRE and Retire Anywhere) and to label whose accounts and income are whose.
Edit your details
- Open Settings. Profile opens first.
- Change any field in the Personal Information card.
- Click Update Profile. You will see "Profile updated successfully".
| Field | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Full Name | How you are labeled across FIYR, for example as the owner of recurring income and bills. |
| Email Address | Your contact email on your profile. Changing it does not change the email you sign in with. See change your password or sign-in email. |
| Date of Birth | Your age, for FIRE and other planning. |
| Retirement Age | Your target retirement age, between 18 and 100. Default 65. |
| Home Location | The metro area that cost comparisons are measured against (below). |
| Marital Status | Single or Married. Married shows the Spouse Information card. |
Home location
Retire Anywhere compares what other cities cost against where you live now, so moving from a high-cost city reads very differently from moving from a cheaper one. If you leave it unset, everything is compared against the US average. Your home location is only used for that math. It is not shared, and it never leaves your account.
If you have not picked a home location yet, FIYR may pre-select one from the city on your in-person purchases and show "Suggested from your transactions". A suggestion is not saved until you choose a location from the list yourself, so pick it (even if it is already showing), then click Update Profile.
Add your spouse
- Under Marital Status, click Married.
- Fill in the Spouse Information card: Spouse Name, Spouse Date of Birth and Spouse Retirement Age.
- Click Update Profile.
With a spouse added, you can mark each linked account as yours, your spouse's or both on the Linked Accounts page, and FIRE planning can include both of you. See the Linked Accounts page.
Renaming yourself or your spouse
When you change your name or your spouse's name and click Update Profile, FIYR also updates the owner on any recurring income and bills that used the old name, so they stay attached to the right person.
Sign out
The Sign out button is at the bottom of the Profile section. On a phone you can also tap More, then Sign out. FIYR keeps you signed in on each device until you sign out, so sign out on any shared computer.
Common questions
Does changing my email in Profile change my login?
No. It only changes the email on your profile. To change the email you sign in with, email support@fiyr.app.
What happens to my spouse data if I switch to Single?
Saving with Single selected removes your spouse details from your profile.
Why did my recurring income change owner?
Renaming yourself or your spouse in Profile updates the owner on recurring income and bills that used the old name.
Is my home location shared with anyone?
No. It is only used for cost comparisons like Retire Anywhere and it stays in your account.
