The monthly value review

In the first five days of each month, the Net Worth page asks you to confirm or update the values of your manual assets and debts. What you confirm becomes that month's point in your net worth history.

Where to find itNet WorthReview values

Linked bank accounts update themselves. Your house, car, collectibles and manual loans don't. The Monthly Value Review is a short monthly check-in so each of them gets a real number every month.

When it appears

  • Automatically on days 1 to 5 of a month, the first time you open the Net Worth page, if you haven't reviewed yet that month and there is something to review.
  • Any time with the Review values button under the totals in the page header (Review on a phone). The button only shows when there is something to review.

What it lists

  • Every manual asset you haven't archived or sold, and every manual debt you haven't archived.
  • Linked accounts only when they haven't updated from your bank for 7 days or more. They carry an amber badge like "9d stale" so you can type a balance while the connection is down. See Fix a connection that needs reconnecting.

Each row shows last month's value (struck through) and an input for this month, already filled in. Homes with an address and crypto with a chosen coin show a live badge when FIYR has fetched a fresh estimate or price for them.

Review your values

  1. Open the Net Worth page (or click Review values).
  2. Go down the ASSETS list. Type a new number for anything that changed; leave the rest.
  3. Do the same for LIABILITIES. Debts show as negative numbers; keep the minus sign, for example -14200.
  4. Click Confirm Values.

FIYR saves this month's value for every item that isn't archived, sold or paid off: the numbers you typed, and the current value for anything not on the list.

On more than one device

FIYR remembers that you reviewed in the browser you used. Another phone or computer may show the review again in the same month. Confirming there only rewrites this month's values, so nothing doubles.

Tips for good numbers

  • Home: use the live estimate, or a recent estimate from a listing site you trust.
  • Car: a private-party value from a pricing guide.
  • Loans: the principal balance on your latest statement, not the payment.
  • Precision matters less than consistency. Updating once a month keeps your trend honest.

Common questions

Why did the review save when I closed it?

Closing the review confirms the pre-filled values. Click Review values any time this month to change them.

Why did the review pop up again on my phone?

The review is remembered per browser. Confirming on another device only rewrites the same month.

Why isn't my checking account in the review?

Linked accounts that are still updating from your bank don't need a manual number. They appear only after 7 days without an update.

I missed the first five days. Can I still review?

Yes. Click Review values in the Net Worth header any day of the month.
