Link a bank or credit card
Click Add Account, choose Link Account, then pick your bank and sign in through Plaid. FIYR imports your accounts, balances and up to two years of transactions, and keeps them up to date from then on.
You can start the same link from three other places: on a phone, More > Add account; in Settings > Linked Accounts with + LINK ACCOUNT; or during the setup wizard.
Link an account
- Click Add Account at the bottom of the sidebar. The Add Account window opens.
- Click Link Account (marked Recommended). The Plaid window opens.
- Search for your bank, card issuer, lender or brokerage and select it.
- Sign in with your usual online banking login, and complete any security check your bank asks for.
- Choose which accounts to share with FIYR, then finish.
- A "Syncing your accounts…" message appears at the top of the screen while FIYR imports. You can keep using the app.
Repeat for each bank. You can link as many institutions as you like, including checking, savings, credit cards, mortgages, student and auto loans, brokerage and retirement accounts.
What FIYR brings in
- Accounts and balances. Each account appears in Settings > Linked Accounts, and on the Net Worth page as an asset (checking, savings, investments) or a liability (cards, loans).
- Transactions. FIYR asks for up to 24 months of history. How far back you actually get depends on your bank. Recent transactions come in first and older history follows.
- Categories. Each transaction is sorted into one of your categories, and your transaction rules are applied.
- Investments. For brokerage and retirement accounts, FIYR also brings in investment activity and holdings.
After that, new transactions arrive on their own. See How and when transactions sync.
Before you link
- Your subscription or trial must be active. Otherwise Add Account is greyed out.
- Only US institutions can be linked.
- Access is read-only. FIYR cannot move money or change anything at your bank, and it never sees your bank password.
Linking a bank you unlinked before
If an account you are linking matches one you unlinked earlier and its old transactions are still in FIYR, FIYR warns you with Previously Unlinked Accounts and lists them. Linking them again brings in a second copy of those transactions. Click Cancel, delete the old copies on the Transactions page (see Edit many transactions at once), then link again. If you are sure, click Link Anyway. If you deleted the transactions when you unlinked, there is nothing to duplicate and no warning appears.
Common questions
Does FIYR see my bank password?
No. You sign in to your bank inside the Plaid window. FIYR receives read-only access and the last four digits of each account number, never your login.
My bank is not in the list.
FIYR can link any US institution Plaid supports. If yours is not there, you can still track the balance by hand. See Track an account FIYR can't link.
How far back will my transactions go?
Up to 24 months, depending on what your bank shares. FIYR shows the last 3 years by default; turn on Load All Transactions in Settings > Preferences to see everything.
Can I link my spouse's accounts?
Yes. Link them the same way, then mark who each account belongs to. See The Linked Accounts page.
I closed the Plaid window by mistake.
Nothing is saved until you finish in Plaid. Click Add Account > Link Account and start again.
