Unlink a bank and what happens to its data

Click Unlink on a bank in Settings > Linked Accounts. Syncing stops and FIYR's access at Plaid is revoked. Your transactions stay unless you tick the box to delete them, and you choose what happens to the accounts on your Net Worth page.

Where to find itSettingsLinked AccountsUnlink
  1. Open Settings > Linked Accounts.
  2. Find the bank and click Unlink at the right of its header. Confirm Account Removal opens.
  3. If the connection has more than one account, a note tells you all of them will be unlinked.
  4. Decide whether to tick Also delete N transactions from this account. It is off by default. FIYR counts the transactions when the window opens, so the number may take a moment to appear.
  5. Under On your Net Worth page, pick what happens to the accounts there (see below).
  6. Click Remove Account. You will see "Account unlinked successfully!", or "Account unlinked and N transactions deleted!" if you ticked the box.
Citi needs reconnecting
Your bank ended the connection, so new transactions aren't coming in. Reconnecting takes a moment and keeps your history.

Click Unlink on Chase, try different choices, and read what FIYR would do with the data.

Your three Net Worth choices

ChoiceWhat happensUse it when
Close them out (default)Value drops to $0 from today. Past months keep their history. You closed the account or moved the money. You can reverse it later from the entry's ⋯ menu with Undo close.
Keep them as manual entriesThe entries stay, but balances stop updating. You update them yourself. You still have the account but no longer want it linked.
Delete themRemoves them and their history. It was a duplicate link, so the history is double-counted.

Keeping or deleting transactions

If you leave the box unticked, every transaction from the connection stays on your Transactions page, in your budgets and in your reports. They are simply no longer tied to a live account.

If you tick it, all of that connection's transactions are deleted, and this cannot be undone. The number in the box is every transaction that will be deleted, including ones older than the 3 years the app loads. If FIYR cannot count them, the box says Also delete every transaction from this account instead.

Things to know

  • You cannot unlink one account and keep the others from the same connection. To stop one account counting toward your net worth, delete its entry on the Net Worth page instead (archiving only hides it from the list). See Edit, sell, archive or delete an asset or loan.
  • Unlinking takes effect at Plaid immediately: FIYR stops receiving any data from that bank.
  • Unlinking does not change anything at your bank.

Common questions

Will unlinking delete my transactions?

Only if you tick Also delete N transactions from this account. By default they are kept.

Can I undo an unlink?

Not as such. Link the bank again with + LINK ACCOUNT. If you kept the old transactions, delete them first or you will get duplicates.

I unlinked and relinked, and now I have duplicates.

Delete the older copies on the Transactions page. See Edit many transactions at once.

Why did my net worth drop after unlinking?

With the default Close them out, those accounts count as $0 from today. Past months are unchanged. Use Undo close on the entry if that was not what you wanted.
