The Dashboard and its report cards
The Dashboard is a page of report cards you choose: spending trends, income vs spending, a donut by category, or any report you build. It works on computers only; on a phone, Dashboard opens Transactions instead.
The page at a glance
- Top left: Dashboard | Report Builder. The builder is where reports are made; see Build a report in the Report Builder.
- Top right: a range pill that can switch every card at once, Add report, and Edit for arranging cards. See Customize your Dashboard.
- Below: your cards, each one a saved report.
Start with a template
An empty dashboard reads Build your first report. Pick a template and FIYR saves it as a real report you can change later:
| Template | Chart | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly spending trend | Line, monthly | Last 6 months |
| Spending by category | Donut | This month |
| Income vs spending | Bars, monthly | Last 6 months |
| Income & spending this year | Two big numbers | Since January 1 |
In the templates, spending means money out in every category outside the Income and Savings groups, and income means everything in Income-group categories. There is no net-savings template: a report can add transactions up but cannot subtract one total from another. For net, use Cash Flow.
Reading a card
Monthly spending trend
Headline: the 6 months in range add up to $20,590. The 6 months before add up to $19,410. Change = ($20,590 − $19,410) ÷ $19,410 = +6.1%. Your spending went up, so the pill is red.
- Title and range line
- The report name, then the range and time bucket, for example "Last 6 months · Monthly". Donut, flow and number cards leave out the bucket.
- Headline
- The first metric's total for the range. With Sum it adds the amounts, with Count it counts transactions, and with Average it divides the sum by the number of transactions (per transaction, not per month).
- Change pill
- How the headline compares with the previous period, with an up or down arrow.
- Legend
- When a card has several series, click a legend item to hide or show it.
How the change pill is calculated
Change % = (this period − previous period) ÷ previous period × 100
- Shown with one decimal, or as a whole number at 100% or more. Hidden when the previous period is $0.
- Previous period is the report's own comparison if it has one. Otherwise it is the same-length window just before the range. For "This month" it is last month up to the same day.
- Green or red means good or bad news, not up or down. A rise is good for a Category or Category Group metric in the Income or Savings group, and for a Label, Transaction Name or All Transactions metric named after income, salary, paycheck, payroll, wages, dividends, interest, savings, deposits or refunds. For everything else (spending) a fall is good. A change under 0.05% shows a grey 0% with no arrow.
- Example: $20,590 of spending in the last 6 months against $19,410 in the 6 before is (20,590 − 19,410) ÷ 19,410 = +6.1%, shown red.
Ranges on a card
- Last 7, 30 and 60 days, Last 3 months (90 days) and Last 6 months (180 days) count back from the end of today.
- "This month" starts on the 1st. Last 12 months and Last 2 years go back to the same date.
- "All time" starts at your oldest transaction.
Ignored transactions, transfers, refunds and pending
- Ignored transactions are always left out of dashboard cards.
- Pending transactions and transfers are included, according to the report's own filters.
- In the templates' spending metric, refunds are left out rather than subtracted, because only money out is counted.
If a card reads "No transactions in this range", nothing matched its filters in that period. If it reads "This report couldn't be loaded", click Retry.
Common questions
Why can't I open the Dashboard on my phone?
The Dashboard is desktop only. On a phone it opens Transactions instead. Cash Flow, Summary and Month View work on a phone.
Why is there no net savings card?
Report metrics can only add up transactions, not subtract one total from another. Cash Flow shows net month by month.
Why is a rise shown in red?
Colors mean good or bad news. More spending is shown red; more income or savings is shown green.
Are ignored transactions on my cards?
No. Dashboard cards always leave out transactions labelled ignore.
